Residents (and non residents) of Forest Meadows and The Trails who use the intersection of Black Forest Rd and Cowpoke Dr should be in for some relief soon. Two support posts have already been installed as part of a temporary traffic signal at the intersection. The signal should complete by the end of December, 2019.
Traffic related to the opening of Grand Peak Academy, a public charter school authorized by D49, has added a new layer of volume and complexity to the already busy intersection, which is a main entry and exit point for residents of Forest Meadows and The Trails at Forest Meadows. Traffic for D20’s Legacy Peak school on Research Parkway, and the completion of Research to intersect with Black Forest, have also complicated the situation. A steady volume of construction traffic associated with several areas has been the icing on the cake.
According to the Colorado Springs city traffic engineering department, plans to actually widen and improve Black Forest Rd are still in the works for 2022. But complications with El Paso county sharing part of the roadway, some anticipated or hoped for annexation of property, and the need to bury some of the major power lines along Black Forest Rd are still issues, and could cause delays.
